"Shibori" is a general term for a dyeing technique in which parts of the fabric are tied with thread or sewn to prevent the dye from penetrating into those areas, resulting in a pattern. The "shibori" seen in Japanese kimonos produces wavy or granular irregularities called "shibo" on the dyed fabric.
